McGuckin History

In The Beginning

It all began in 1955 when our company’s namesake, a rugged, avid fisherman named Bill McGuckin, opened the doors of McGuckin Hardware. Employing four people in four departments, his success was based on his belief in personalized service, selection and first-hand experience.

Dave Hight

In 1960, Dave Hight became a partner in McGuckin Hardware with his father-in-law, Bill. Together they sought to create a quality hardware store with a reputation for excellent service and selection. Working from this solid base, Dave has carried on McGuckin Hardware’s dedication to service since Bill’s death in 1966. The company has continued to grow ever since.

Our Present Home

The store has moved several times, though never more than a block away from it's original location. In 1978, we moved into our present home – which was expanded in the mid 1990's.

McGuckin Hardware currently employs around an average of 250 people on its 60,000+ square foot sales floor.  Our 55,000 square foot Distribution Center is located in far north Boulder. We average about 315 employees for all operations. Indeed, McGuckin Hardware has grown to service all of our customers' needs.
